Franco Borg – Head, Risk Management

Franco is Head of Risk Management, responsible for analysing risk within the MFSA, and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and the Risk Committee.
Franco spent over 20 years working with one of the Big 4 Firms, gaining expertise both locally and globally in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Oman and Saudi Arabia. He has led the delivery of multiple engagements, specialising in business risk, enterprise risk management, corporate governance and compliance services.

Prior to joining the MFSA, Franco was involved in an engagement commissioned by the Financial Conduct Authority, the British financial service regulator, to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the Financial Crime control environment, supervisory oversight and supporting infrastructure across all key business lines and worldwide operations of a British multinational banking and financial services company. Franco was involved in providing governance, operational support, planning and reporting for team members engaged in different work streams including AML, Sanctions, Assurance, Governance, People, Risk Assessment and Data Management.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree from the University of Malta, Franco is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). He is also a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
