On 14 September 2005, the Malta Financial Services Authority, as the Competent Authority responsible for the regulation and supervision of local credit institutions, granted permission in terms of the provisions of Banking Directive BD/01, to Disbank Malta Ltd to change its name to Fortis Bank Malta Ltd. The change in name follows the regulatory approval for the purchase of shares by Fortis from the majority shareholders of Turk Dis Ticaret Bankasi A.S. (the parent of Disbank Malta Ltd) in Turkey.
