FEBRUARY 16, 2005

Areas of common interest, including the EU single market in financial services, were discussed at a meeting held on the 16 th February between a delegation led by The Rt Hon. Alderman Michael Savory, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, and the MFSA. The Lord Mayor later gave a keynote speech at a conference and networking meeting with finance industry associations held at the MFSA. He expressed his confidence in this regard by telling the audience that his “pitch for London (is) to continue now, as it has been for centuries, as your natural financial partner”.

To further strengthen the ties between the two centres, the Lord Mayor announced that he had granted the MFSA two work placements with City institutions via the Mansion House Scholarship Scheme and promised all his support to the Maltese financial community during the forthcoming seminar in London in June this year.

The Hon. Tonio Fenech, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance also addressed the conference saying that both the City of London and Malta have a high regard for standards in this business and highlighted a number of areas where he felt there was immense scope for nurturing business linkages with the City.
