New Financial Services training initiative
AUGUST 22, 2007

The MFSA is pleased to announce the launch of a Diploma in Financial Services Operations and Compliance intended to facilitate the take up and improvement of careers in the financial sector. The programme has been designed and developed in conjunction with Enterprise LSE, a division of the London School of Economics. It is structured as a one year programme that caters both for people who wish to build on their on-the-job experience in the sector as well as for those who intend to take up a career in financial services, particularly by complementing their acquired specialisation in related disciplines such as management, accounting and legal studies. The course may also serve as a comprehensive update programme for persons returning to work in the sector after a marked period of absence.

The rationale underlying this programme is to introduce a broad, technical and experience-based approach to current operational and compliance related topics that are relevant to the financial services sector both on alocal and international level.

The study material focuses on the current reality of Malta as an EU jurisdiction operating and competing beyond national boundaries. The international component of the course will be delivered on-line and has been drawn up by Enterprise LSE and a group of experts from the London School of Economics. The local content, which will be classroom based, has been prepared by the MFSA and the Malta International Training Centre (MITC). The MITC has also been entrusted with the running of the course and the issue of the final Diploma Certification that will be endorsed by the MFSA.

This initiative is in line with the MFSA’s responsibility to ensure that the level of knowledge and competence in the Maltese financial services industry is one that guarantees efficiency, competitiveness and professionalism as the industry continues to grow. In this respect the MFSA will continue investing to ensure that new training opportunities of the required standard are available locally and accessible to anyone interested in working in the sector. The new qualification will also provide the MFSA with another means of assessing the competence levels of licence holders and their employees.
