EIOPA issues Opinion on Consumer Protection Issues in Payment Protection Insurance

  • EIOPA acknowledges that significant consumer protection problems, including misselling issues and market imperfections have occurred in Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) markets.
  • Having reviewed and analysed recent developments, EIOPA recommends national competent authorities to analyse the situation in their markets.
  • By analysing existing experience and providing a framework for exploring national PPI markets EIOPA wishes to play an active role in building a common Union supervisory culture and supervisory practices, as well as ensuring consistent approaches.
