Christopher Aquilina – Head, FinTech Supervision


Christopher Aquilina was appointed Head of FinTech Supervision at the Malta Financial Services Authority in April 2026, bringing extensive experience in ICT risk, cybersecurity, and regulatory policy. A qualified advocate with a strong technical background, he has built his career at the intersection of technology, law, and financial supervision. Prior to this appointment, he served as Deputy Head of Supervisory ICT Risk and Cybersecurity at the MFSA, where he led authorisation and supervisory initiatives, contributed to regulatory policy development, and represented the Authority in European fora. His expertise spans cybersecurity frameworks, cloud technologies, and digital infrastructure, underpinned by hands-on technical knowledge and strategic oversight.

He has also held senior roles within the Malta Information Technology Agency and the Permanent Representation of Malta to the European Union, including serving as Cyber Attaché and Chair of the Horizontal Working Party on Cyber Issues. In these capacities, he played a key role in shaping Malta’s position on EU cybersecurity legislation and advancing national cyber resilience strategies. Christopher combines leadership in large-scale ICT and EU-funded projects with strong stakeholder engagement across government, industry, and international institutions. He is also a visiting lecturer at Global College University and remains actively engaged in promoting innovation, robust governance, and effective supervision within the evolving fintech landscape.
