Notice to the General Public - Online foreign exchange brokers
APRIL 03, 2014

The Malta Financial Services Authority (the “MFSA”) is responsible for the regulation and supervision of financial services offered and/or provided in or from Malta.

The MFSA has recently become aware of an increasing number of websites purporting to be foreign exchange (forex or fx) brokers offering their services or otherwise seeking to attract business without being duly licenced or authorised. A number of such websites claim to have offices in Malta and/or fraudulently claim to be registered with the MFSA and/or authorised, licenced or regulated by the MFSA.

The MFSA hereby advises the general public to exercise caution and not to enter into any financial transaction or any business relationship with any online foreign exchange broker unless it is ascertained that the entity in question is licenced or is otherwise authorised to provide such services by the MFSA or by another reputable financial services regulatory authority.

A list of entities licensed and authorised by the MFSA is available from the Malta Financial Services Authority, and can be viewed on the MFSA website at www.mfsa.com.mt.
