About Capital Markets Supervision


The Capital Markets Supervision Function oversees financial markets to ensure investor protection and orderly markets. This is achieved through various policy and supervisory work done at the stages of primary market, secondary market and post-trading.

The Capital Markets Supervision Function’s responsibilities include the processing of applications for admissibility to listing on regulated markets in Malta, the approvals of prospectuses in terms of the Prospectus Regulation, the supervision of the continuing obligations of companies having securities listed on regulated markets in Malta, the supervision of markets to identify any market abuse, the authorisation and supervision of trading venues, central securities depositories and crowdfunding platforms, the supervision of financial and non-financial entities falling under the scope of EMIR and SFTR, the data quality assurance of submissions made under EMIR, SFTR, MiFIR and CSDR, the supervision of administrators, contributors and users of benchmarks in terms of the Benchmarks Regulation and the oversight of activities in terms of the Securitisation Act and the Securitisation Regulation.

The Capital Markets Supervision is also actively involved in various other initiatives such as the DLT MTF Pilot Regime and the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF).

The Role


We are looking for a promising and talented individual seeking growth in the dynamic area of Capital Markets. The role provides exposure to a variety of tasks, including the review and analysis of listed entities' financial information at both application and post-listing stage.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with team members on examinations as referred to in ESMA's Guidelines on Enforcement of Financial Information;
  • Assist in correspondence with listed entities and/or their auditors on accounting matters, including the application of IFRS;
  • Review listed entities' publications to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Capital Markets Rules;
  • Review financial information included in prospectuses submitted by listing applicants, such as profit forecasts and alternative performance measures;
  • Assist in the review of the financial soundness of listing applicants;
  • Contribute to ongoing discussions and developments in the area of sustainable finance;
  • Undertake such other tasks as may be directed from time to time by line management, depending on the exigencies of the Capital Markets Supervision Function.

About You


The ideal candidate must have a solid academic background in finance or other relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 and in the process of furthering his/her studies in the area of Accountancy or be in possession of a Master in Accountancy or an equivalent qualification in the field of the Accountancy profession.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least five (5) years' experience in a similar related role, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

The following skills and attributes are important for this position:

  • Interest in the area of Capital Markets and the ongoing supervision of listed entities;
  • A challenging mind in the application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills;
  • Attention to detail; and the ability to work in a team.
