About Capital Markets Supervision


The Capital Markets Supervision Function oversees financial markets to ensure investor protection and orderly markets. This is achieved through various policy and supervisory work done at the stages of primary market, secondary market and post-trading.

The Capital Markets Supervision Function’s responsibilities include the processing of applications for admissibility to listing on regulated markets in Malta, the approvals of prospectuses in terms of the Prospectus Regulation, the supervision of the continuing obligations of companies having securities listed on regulated markets in Malta, the supervision of markets to identify any market abuse, the authorisation and supervision of trading venues, central securities depositories and crowdfunding platforms, the supervision of financial and non-financial entities falling under the scope of EMIR and SFTR, the data quality assurance of submissions made under EMIR, SFTR, MiFIR and CSDR, the supervision of administrators, contributors and users of benchmarks in terms of the Benchmarks Regulation and the oversight of activities in terms of the Securitisation Act and the Securitisation Regulation.

The Capital Markets Supervision is also actively involved in various other initiatives such as the DLT MTF Pilot Regime.

The Role


We are looking for a talented Analyst in the Market Infrastructures team to form part of a dedicated team of highly skilled supervisors with Capital Markets Supervision function. You will be employed on a 2 year definite contract with the possibility to extend.

The role requires individuals who can interpret law into practical scenarios and be able to crunch numbers.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Carrying out work relating to the supervision of certain aspects of post-trading elements on derivatives and securities financing thus ensuring compliance to regulations such as EMIR and SFTR;
  • Reviewing Securitisation notifications and applications for third party verifiers under the Securitisation regime;
  • Prepare and compile reports/ statistics as part of our desk-based supervision;
  • Assisting and participating in onsite compliance visits and meetings;
  • Addressing any regulatory issues that may arise from time to time;
  • Providing the appropriate supervisory guidance as and when required by market participants;
  • Ensuring that any arising issues within the capital markets team are dealt with expeditiously; and
  • Undertaking any other tasks as delegated by senior management in line with the exigencies of the Authority.

About You


The MFSA is looking for a promising individual seeking growth in the dynamic area of Capital Markets.

The ideal candidate must have a solid academic background in law, accountancy, economics, banking and finance or other relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

You will also possess a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a related area/similar post. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred. Also, knowledge and/or experience in the field of information technology, virtual currencies and their underlying technologies, would be considered an asset.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience in a similar related role, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

The following skills and attributes are important for this position:

  • Demonstrate interest in financial services;
  • Ability to give great attention to detail and be highly conscientious with quality and accuracy of reports raised;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities as may be necessary;
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other team players and with the industry in general;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Whilst not a necessity, knowledge in the use of BI tools would be considered an asset.

The preferred candidate will be given various opportunities to learn and be trained for the role, through various mechanisms which the Authority holds such as the Financial Supervisors Academy and on the job training.
