About Banking Supervision

The Authorisation team within Banking Supervision is responsible for the processing of applications of entities proposing to carry out activities in the areas of banking and financial institutions in line with both the respective acts under the local legislation. These activities are regulated and supervised by the MFSA in its role as single regulator of financial services in Malta. The Banking Authorisation team is the entry point for a regulated entity to operate in Malta. The team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of professionals from different academic backgrounds.

The Role

The eventual appointee will be appointed as Administrative Assistant in Grade 9 level and duties may involve:

  • Processing of supervisory returns;
  • Communicate effectively and persuasively at the right level and establish effective working relationships with key internal and external;
  • Attending and participating as may be required in local and overseas training, meetings and working groups particularly those relating to the EBA, ECB, ESRB and BIS and other European regulatory bodies;
  • Participate in pre-application meetings with interested parties;
  • Support and place more focus on the work relating to passporting processing / application processing / supporting due diligence enquiries of supervisors;
  • Assisting with work on applications and in consultation with your manager, assessing the suitability of Members of the Board and of Key Function Holders;
  • Handle regulatory queries as may be required;
  • Assisting in updating the Unit's databases;
  • Other ad-hoc duties as may be required by senior management of the Banking Supervision from time to time

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a relevant academic background in Banking & Finance or Accountancy or Economics or Statistics and/or in another financial services related subject.

The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 5 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

Competence in MS Excel techniques and experience in a quantitative environment will be considered an asset. Candidates with proven work experience within the financial services industry will be preferred.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least three (3) years of relevant experience within the financial services environment, we would still be interested in speaking with you.
